Happy Easter

The Archbishop of Canterbury warned yesterday against materialist greed and prophesied the collapse of civilisation. No shit! He said that the luxuries we took for granted could not be sustained for ever. So you may own a sky+ digibox, 2 PC’s and a laptop but post-“whatever it might be,” they will be useless. He went on to waffle about how society has grabbed all it can take because of fear of death…! Well that’s one view, I’m not afraid of death in the slightest, mind you I am about materialistic as plankton.
“We as a culture cannot imagine that this civilisation, like all others, will collapse and that what we take for granted about our comforts and luxuries simply cannot be sustained indefinitely. To all this, don’t be deceived: night must fall.”
Criticising modern society’s approach to mortality, he said: “Individuals live in anxious and acquisitive ways, seizing what they can to provide a security that is bound to dissolve, because they are going to die,” he said. “Societies or nations do the same. The individual grabbing the things of this world is in fact the mark of an inner deadness.” So I go out and buy a 42″ plasma T.V. because it fits nicely in between the chimney and the unit in my front room, I am dead inside…? Whatever! I’ve always said I respect the morals that Christianity teaches, the rest though, is a load of old shit! If anybody takes a long hard look at the world today, it is obvious that it is going to go tits up, but the individual can do sod all about it, nor can an entire nation, so all we can do is just sit back and enjoy the ride!
