Ponderings…

March 6th, 2015

I wander… Not only in my own solitude but when I am busiest, recreationally I relax and read or play a game or practice an instrument, when I work I seek the path of least resistance coupled with the most favourable outcome, finding ways to ease monotony is an area in which I have learned to excel, I am never bored. This is a sudden revelation and something compels me to try and explain, I have never regarded myself as lazy but analytical, I am far happier solving a problem than I am fitting ‘a part’ so to speak. Seeing an easier way to complete a task and not rewriting the procedure is futile to me. A bloke who I worked alongside in Edwards High Vacuum once said to me, ‘A lazy person will always find the easiest way to do things.’ Brilliant! The reason this phrase stayed with me is because of it’s subtle oxymoronic overtones and enduring prevalence to the fact that the possibility of creativity was so ignorantly rejected, or maybe he was just a very clever cynic (doubtful), a signature of our times I suppose. But there are rules that need to be adhered to so that we fit in and continue as we do.

The fact is I will continue to write all this random stuff down because it appeases me a little, puts certain things to bed and forces me to be honest. Like a private diary hidden under a bed, this blog infuses the passion in me to be open and honest, knowing that one day somebody will undoubtedly run their hand under the mattress.

Have you done your 17th edition yet then, I understand they are going to be changing it soon anyway as you now have to have a metal consumer unit (fire proofing or some such).. So I might have to go back and do an update (yes shocking I have 17th edition how freaky is that).. Got a weeks worth of training at the end of January which is basically the same as I do every couple of years but compressed because I’m sick of repeating them all over the shop lol..

Bleed everything expires this year so spent about 3k so far on training not good.. especially when I haven’t got any work!!! ouch..

May well be in the summer months as work load reduced. Meeting next Tuesday about commercial ventures, a lot of people have left, I think it has made the powers that be sit up and take notice a bit, so I shall formulate some questions as this time, I may be heard.

One positive about employment is I get training paid for, although I would very much like to be my own boss, I don’t think I have the balls….

See if you can get inspection and testing as well as 17th fella that would come in useful for certain 😉

Own boss is as you know a two edged sword.. You can get a lot of time at home (without pay) or the converse and have a lot of time away (with a lot of pay you never get to see/use)… If I was honest I would take a full-time post again if I could get the work/life balance a little better.. I almost dropped everything a couple of months ago to go full time. The company concerned didn’t talk to me in time though and now I’m damned if they will have me after suffering months with no work from them 😉

You seem fairly happy in that role, you have had it a fair while now.. See what else you can help them with.. But don’t think it will make the result any different, your still have to deal with the public.. saint or sinner you can’t escape :p
